Tuesday, 28th November 2006 (5634 views) A golden snuff box could fetch £700,000 at a forthcoming London auction. The Russian antique is part of a major auction being held by the city's two leading auction houses and the sale is set to include some stunning pieces of Russian art including rare paintings and unique Faberge items. It is estimated that the stunning gold and diamond Faberge snuff box could be bought by a collector for as much as £700,000 as demand for Faberge items has increased significantly in recent years. "If we had extremely serious interest for Russian paintings in the last four or five years, in the last one or two years we have renewed interest for Faberge items among the collectors," said Christie's Russian expert Alexis de Tiesenhausen. The week of sales will include nearly 1,000 lots and is set to attract significant interest from Russian buyers both overseas and at home. Jo Vickery, Russian expert at Sotheby's, explained to Reuters: "The Russians are essentially buying their heritage and if they are doing that they are going to pay more."
