Mendoza mining legislation vetoedThe news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Wednesday, 20th December 2006 (2121 views) The department of environment in Mendoza has announced plans to finalise its environmental management proposals regarding mining licences.Plans include the definition and protection of the interests of the province in terms of provision for parks, nature reserves, agriculture and the exploration and action of mining. Exeter Resources has been given the green light to finalise its La Cabeza project, as it falls within the plans for mineral exploration and mining, although there were fears that a permit was not going to be granted after the Mendoza Provincial Congress tried to pass legislation to suspend prospecting rights. Proposed directives would have meant new prospecting, exploration and mining licences would have to be drafted and approved by the provincial legislation, which is currently 14 years old. However, the governor of Mendoza Provincial Congress has vetoed the plans, meaning mining projects now fall within the rules governing mining. The company claims it communicates regularly with the local community over matters relating to the exploration and mining in the area, while also supporting employment both directly and indirectly.
