Canadian-based company Sacre-Coeur Minerals has widened its gold exploration at its Million Mountain site in Guyana.

The company confirmed that it has now expanded by around 325 metres to the south of the initial gold discoveries at the mine and is set to refine its current geologic model in order to uncover more gold resources over the coming months.

A statement from Sacre-Coeur Minerals explained: "Recent work undertaken by our team, which now includes three new senior exploration geologists, consisting of core drilling at several different orientations, a major trenching and surface mapping programme consisting of over 1,400 metres of deep trenching."

It is expected that trenching and drilling will continue at the site at the start of January in order to obtain a more complete picture of the gold resource area as well as identifying areas for further exploration.

Sacre-Coeur has a number of operations throughout South America and its focus on gold is concentrated in Guyana, where the company has around 850 square miles of properties.
