Alto gets excited about past-producing gold beltThe news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Wednesday, 31st January 2007 (5782 views) Alto Ventures has announced the commencement of its winter 2007 diamond drilling programme at projects which lay along the Beardmore Geraldton gold belt which is a prolific gold belt.In the past Beardmore Geraldton has produced over four million ounces of gold at grades which compare to north-western Ontario's Red Lake mining camp. Some 20 targets are going to be undertaken at the site and at one project a major new shear structure has already been discovered. Cote-Archie Lake carries gold mineralisation with a grade of 11.2 grams of gold per tonne for one metre. Grab samples have grades of 17.3 grams of gold per tonne while other areas of the belt also look promising. Parts seem similar in structure to the nearby Leitch Mine which reaped 860,000 ounces of gold at grades of 0.92 grams of gold per tonne when it was in operation during the 1960s. Leitch is just five kilometres from Alto Ventures' property so management is "very excited" about the Beardmore drilling programme as it tests targets in a past-producing area.
