Tuesday, 20th February 2007 (3075 views) Marifil Mines, a Canadian resource exploration company, has announced that it has finished the second phase of trench sampling at its gold and silver project in the Rio Negro province of Argentina. It wholly owns the San Roque project where highlights from recent work include one six metre stretch at a grade of 3.21 grams of gold per tonne and plus three metres at 12.7 grams of gold per tonne. Silver was also found with a three metre length having a grade of 0.7 grams of silver per tonne. John Hite, the president of Marifil, said: "All of the gold-bearing structures are surrounded by haloes of lower grade gold which suggests that we may have some bulk tonnage targets. "This will likely require more extensive sampling for us to satisfactorily estimate of the actual grade." Some 52 trenches were dug and 765 samples taken with the company already targeting five specific areas which will be drilled as soon as possible. San Roque measures about 12,000 hectares and is 56 kilometres from the port of San Antonio Oeste which is on the Atlantic coast.
