Wednesday, 21st February 2007 (2067 views) The interim prime minister of Fiji is due to visit mine workers and tour the gold mine area of Vatukoula this week.Voreqe Bainimarama is to visit the Emperor gold mine along with the interim minister for lands and mineral resources, Tevita Vuibau, and is also expected to hold informal talks with the management board of the gold mining firm over its situation and plans for the mine. The gold mine closed late last year after Emperor deemed it financially unviable, meaning some 1,700 jobs were lost on the island of Viti Levu. However, a Canadian recruitment company has now stepped in to help those affected by the loss, with more than 700 applicants hoping to gain a job in Canada. Jobrox Solutions has also employed three people to assist with the recruitment process, which involves matching the skills of the gold miners to the requirements of Canadian employers. Jobrox president Arvinder Bubber told the Fiji Times: "Once matches are made, we would carry out negotiations and consultations between the two parties." The company is now due to return to Fiji in two months to gain more applications.
