Wednesday, 21st March 2007 (1933 views) Some of the most scarce ancient jewels are set to go display in New York as part of the collection of Phoenix Ancient Art.From April 19th to May 30th, a collection of the "most beautiful" gold pieces will be on display at Phoenix's latest exhibition, 'Greek Gold: Masterpieces of Classical Jewellery', says Ali Aboutaam, president of the group. One of the most eye-catching artefacts set to be displayed is a 2,000 year-old braided gold choker from the Asiatic steppes, which is embossed with mythological animal designs. Other items to be showcased at the exhibition include a pair of Hellenistic Greek gold earrings embossed with the emblem of the king of the gods, Zeus. The miniature eagles clutching thunderbolt symbols have each been covered in individual gold beads, a technique which it is impossible to perform today. Co-president of Phoenix Ancient Art, Hicham Aboutaam, said that the collection will "rival the holdings at any museum or modern jewellery house", reports PR-Inside.com.
