The future of gold mining in Portugal has taken a positive step forward according to the president of Kernow Resources and Developments.

Alan F Matthews was commenting following the decision to award an experimental mining license to the company for the Jales Gralheira property and to grant an exploration license for the Alto Sobrido property.

"We have been exploring for gold in Portugal for over five years and see the award of the experimental mining licence for the Jales Gralheira Project as a great step forward for our company and for the future of mining in Portugal," Mr Matthews said.

Mr Matthews was speaking at a presentation attended by Portugal's minister of economy and innovation professor, Doutor Manuel Pinho, and the secretary of state professor Doutor Antonio Guerra.

The ceremony saw Kernow enter into an agreement with a division of the Portuguese ministry of economy and innovation.

According to its website, Kernow has drilled more than 10,000 metres of exploration holes on its properties since 1995.
