A project near the site of Australia's first recorded gold discovery is pioneering a mining resurgence in the area, a new report indicates.

Hill End, the New South Wales site near Bathurst - where the first Australian gold was recorded - is now being mined by Hill End Gold, reports Mineweb.

Phillip Bruce, the company's managing director, told the publication that operations will focus on the high grade Reward area, which has a resource of 124,000 tonnes grading 19 grams a tonne.

The drive will then reportedly be developed through the Phillipson's and Paxton's and zones.

In related news, the historic gold mining centre of Coolgardie in Western Australia is the site of two mining ventures said by Mineweb to be at the forefront of a gold revival in the region.

Gold was discovered in Bathurst - 200km west of Sydney - in 1851.
