Gold and mineral exploration company Fronteer Development Group has announced that it has struck gold at its Kirazli gold deposit, Turkey.

The company noted that 1.47 grammes per tonne of gold over 31.50 metres and a separate zone of 0.52 grammes per tonne of gold over 21.70 metres were discovered in drill hole KD-99.

Meanwhile, at Fronteer's Agi Dagi project, 3.82 grammes per tonne of gold over 48 metres including 6.60 grammes per tonne gold over 15 metres in RC hole A-298 were discovered.

"This hole was a twin of an earlier RC hole, A-177, which returned 2.27 grammes per tonne gold over 52.50 metres but had poor drill recoveries," a company statement noted.

Fronteer acknowledged that the results from this hole indicate that higher gold grades could be expected with enhanced drilling techniques and better recoveries.

Dr Mark O'Dea, Fronteer's president and chief executive officer, commented that the grades and widths intersected in the KD-99 hole were "extremely encouraging".
