The Gemological Institute of America London (GIA London) has announced the winner of the first ever H Goldie Jewellery Design Competition.

Jeweller Circular Keystone (JCK) reveals that GIA London graduate Jennifer Lam has been named as the winner, earning herself a £1,000 award and a £500 trip to Baselworld Watch and Jewellery Show which is organised annually in the city of Basel, Switzerland.

The competition is open to all students enrolled in GIA London's jewellery design classes and contestants are required to draft a design for a set of diamond jewellery in yellow and white gold.

"The set can consist of either a pendant and earrings for women or cuff links and a tie bar or tie tack for men," JCK notes.

Ms Lam based her "Oceanic" design on the sea, creating a pendant and earring set. The "waves" were constructed from 18-carat yellow gold and surrounded by hollow, circular frames of 18-carat white gold.

The judges appraised the designs for quality, technique, design idea and overall presentation.
