For hard-core music lovers, nothing can be more of a status symbol than owning a heavyweight gold music system.

Home entertainment product retail Marantz has launched such a gold Hi-Fi, which measures three foot in height and weighs 19-stone.

The equipment is filled with the latest technology and as you would expect from a gold music system of the above dimensions, the combined price tag of Marantz' Hi-Fi is set to be £16,000, according to website Shiny Shiny.

The individual components of the system include an SA-7S1 SA CD player, the SC-7S2 pre-amp and a pair of MA-9S2 mono block amplifiers.

Shiny Shiny also reports that the gold Hi-Fi includes shielding plates to protect from interference, making the appliance "capable of generating almost 5000W of instantaneous power at peak demands and allows even the faintest input signals from its Super Audio CD player to be conveyed with unerring accuracy, in amazingly fast response times and with absolute precision".

Other gold technology to hit the headlines lately has included a gold iPod and a gold plated Bluetooth headset.
