Eric S Nonacs, a senior adviser to Bill Clinton and the Clinton Foundation, is to speak at a conference on mining and minerals.

Mr Nonacs is to attend the inaugural Asia Pacific Forum on Mining and Minerals, to be held at Vancouver between September 30th and October 3rd 2007.

Bringing together internationally renowned figures in the mining and minerals industry, the forum is to incorporate speakers from mining companies, government, academia and First Nations.

Mr Nonacs has worked in areas including sustainable development, conflict resolution, peace-building and freedom of the press in such countries as Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, El Salvador and Nicaragua, as well as Africa and East Central Europe, according to the event's organisers.

He currently works as a senior adviser to the William J Clinton Foundation, which has implemented a social responsibility initiative together with leading figures from the gold industry.

The Clinton-Giustra Sustainable Growth Initiative was launched earlier this year with initial commitments of $100 million (£50 million) from both mining tycoon Frank Giustra and prominent philanthropist Carlos Slim Helu.

Set to work to improve living conditions in Latin American countries, the fund brings together a coalition of figures from within and without the mining industry.
