Monday, 24th September 2007 (1832 views) Gold merchants and members of the retail sector in the United Arab Emirates are being actively encouraged to participate in the Dubai Cares charity initiative by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the vice president, prime minister and ruler of Dubai.The campaign, which is set to run for six weeks, intends to raise money to work toward the UN Millennium Development Goal of providing primary-level education to every child by 2015. Sheikh Rashid said that he expects the private sector, including trade bodies such as the Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group, which has over 700 members, to make a "substantial contribution" to the charity initiative. In addition, according to Business Intelligence Middle East, special donation boxes will be kept at designated shopping locations throughout the United Arab Emirates and the Dubai International Airport. Dubai Cares said that the campaign, which is being held over the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, hopes to "tap into the spirit of giving and the tradition of philanthropy" in the coming weeks.
