A 24-carat gold-plated Apple iPod, billed as the world's first, is available for purchase from UK-based family business Goldstriker International.

The company offers new gold-plated versions of the mp3 and video players, as well as a service designed to convert customers' own iPods into 24-carat works of art.

Advertising "the most extensive precious metal range", the conversion service is available for classic iPods, as well as the iPod video and iPod nano.

Goldstriker International's online shop offers a 48-hour turnaround time upon delivery to give an existing iPod a sparkling revamp, with prices starting from £60.

Further plans are in place to extend the service from gold-plated to full gold versions of the mp3 players, also taking into account the latest addition to the Apple line – a gold-plated iPod Touch.

The company offers a range of other gold-plating services as well, including grilles and other automobile accessories and a range of 24-carat mobile phones.
