The demand for antique gold jewellery is driving a resurgence in sales of such items, India's Economic Times has reported.

Pieces that seem old-fashioned yet "stunningly beautiful" are particularly popular in India at the moment, according to the publication.

"There is a demand for handcrafted jewellery pieces across the board," convenor of jewellery exhibition Jewels of India Sandeep Bekal told the publication.

The timeless aspect of such pieces was cited as key reason for their appeal, as was their monetary value.

Traditional gold original pieces may also be given a more modern look with a fold framework, the report suggested.

In related news, it has been suggested that the approaching wedding season is driving demand for gold even higher in Pakistan.

Islamabad News reported that Shawwal is a key period in which to get married and the accompanying gold pieces tend to be very popular among consumers at this time.
