Further gold finds in Chichester 'not ruled out'The news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Friday, 23rd November 2007 (1732 views) Chichester District Council has said that it cannot rule out further discoveries of gold and other artefacts at a historical site in the area. The site of the second century Roman Baths has been about three-quarters excavated and may yet yield more treasure according to the council, reported the Argus. During a recent development of a factory in the East Street area a number of important discoveries were made, including gold rings. "There is absolutely no doubt Chichester, like many other former Roman cities, is extremely rich in heritage, the remains of which often are often still buried," said a spokesperson for English Heritage. The prospect of more items being uncovered at the site could delay the construction of a new museum in the area, it was suggested. It also emerged this week that some 58,290 artefacts were discovered by members of the British public this year, according to British Museum statistics.
