Bendigo 'to rejoin gold ranks'

Friday, 23rd November 2007 (1161 views)

Bendigo Mining has announced that it is hoping to deliver sustainable gold production at Australia's Gill reef by the end of next year.

The company told shareholders at its annual general meeting that it has shifted its focus to exploration following the closure of its Kangaroo project earlier this year.

Chair Peter McCarthy voiced the company's intention to begin trial mining in the March 2008 quarter, with processing expected to begin in the second half of next year.

"If we start to deliver, by entering into trial mining and displaying some good gold grades, then by this time next year the company should have re-joined the ranks of Australian gold producers," he said.

The company has discovered five new gold reefs since the previous project's end.

Bendigo Mining has produced about 22 million oz of gold in its history and states its mission as building a sustainable production base at the Bendigo goldfield.
