Gold wristwatches 'popular'The news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Thursday, 20th December 2007 (1953 views) The retail sector is reportedly witnessing a boom in sales of gold watches as timekeeping gains a decidedly luxurious flavour.DPA reports on Earthtimes.org that jewellery shops are displaying a variety of gold wristwatches in the run-up to Christmas, with a number of designer products incorporating the precious metal into their construction. Among these are the Rolex Yacht-Master II, Cartier's women's watch Love, Jaeger Le Coultre's Doumetre Chronograph and Audermars Piquet's Lady Royal Oak. Citing the Jewellery and Watch Organisation, the report notes that expensive timepieces are a definite trend, despite their price. "Looking in jewellery shop windows around Christmas time, it's clear that watches with gold trimmings are also causing tills to ring, much to the delight of shopkeepers," it is stated. In related jewellery news, members of CIBJO, the World Jewellery Confederation, recently pledged to commit to sustainable practices at a meeting in Geneva.
