A dentist from Prague has claimed to have located the site of a hoard of gold treasure dating back to the second world war.

The Stechovice hoard, including gold thieved from a Belgian bank and documents stolen from Prague's Charles University by the Nazis, has allegedly been found by Petr Kaspar.

Mr Kapr, a dentistry practitioner, told the Prague Daily Monitor: "We can say we definitely know where the site is."

According to the news provider, gold hunters have spent years pursuing futile attempts to locate the treasure.

But now, the dentist has asserted that even the number of the crates reportedly taken before the Prague uprising in 1945 matches.

Together with three other gold hunters, Mr Kapr interviewed survivors and studied maps and aerial photographs to reach his conclusion.

DW-WORLD.DE, Deutsche Welle's online service, notes that if discovered the treasure could be valuable to Third Reich historians.
