The US is looking to diversify its trade relations with Pakistan through gold jewellery exports, a new report reveals

According to the Associated Press of Pakistan, greater economic cooperation between the two countries is sought by the US.

Bryan D Hunt, principal officer of the US Consulate Lahore, told a meeting of the Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry this week that Pakistan is viewed as a valuable trade partner by the country.

Diversified trade relations could incorporate gold jewellery, as well as leather, garments, fish, footwear, vegetables, marble and rice, it was said.

If Pakistan fulfilled US certification prerequisites, its mango could be exported to the US, while a possible free trade agreement could enable the US to import Pakistan textiles.

Bonni Davis, vice-president of sales at jewellery company lia sophia, recently predicted that 2008 brides will drive high gold sales this year.
