High-grade gold intersects are among the findings of a 10,000-metre drilling programme that has defined a "major new zone" of gold mineralisation at the Limon Mine in Nicaragua, the company behind the project has announced.

Central Sun Mining said the new zone "significantly extends" the Santa Pancha orebody, which is the deposit with the highest grades in the mine's area.

The potential strike length of this new zone is over 200 metres, the company said.

Results from the drilling include an intersect of 4.54 g/t gold over a true width of 15 metres. This was recovered from hole drilled 200 metres south of another drill site that returned a grade of 5.83 g/t gold over 12.3 metres.

Commenting on the data, Central Sun's executive vice-president of exploration, Dr Bill Pearson, said: "This is an excellent result as the hole confirms significant gold mineralisation in the area where very little exploration has been previously carried out."

The Limon Mine is located in north-west Nicaragua. Its resources are estimated at 223,100 ounces of gold.
