A vertical channel sampling programme at the Tovshiir gold project in Suhkbaatar, Mongolia, has returned "significant" gold grades, according to the company developing the site.

Garrison International said the programme has so far taken 361 samples from 18 new trenches in four zones - China Pit, Ninja, Twin and Back Hill.

Analysis of these samples has returned high-grade results including 146.19 g/t gold over 0.6 metres, 114.64 g/t gold over 0.5 metres and 110.65 g/t gold over 0.5 metres, all of which were discovered in the Twin zone.

Other results included 78.86 g/t gold over 0.6 metres, 72.13 g/t gold over 0.6 metres and 62.19 g/t gold over 0.6 metres in the Ninja zone.

Garrison described the results as "encouraging" and said they will be used as the basis of further exploration work to identify potential zones of gold mineralisation.

Visible gold has been recorded in previous drilling at the site, as well as in sample chippings of surface rock, it added.

Mongolia is the world's 19th largest independent country, but it is also the least densely populated. Suhkbaatar province is located in the east of the country, bordering China.
