Monday, 25th February 2008 (2913 views) Gold pieces dating from the reign of Alexander the Great are reportedly among the artefacts on display at a new private museum in the United Arab Emirates.News service the Khaleej Times said that around 6,000 pieces, including gold and silver coins, jewellery, oil lamps, weapons and ceramics, are included in the museum, which exhibits the private collection of antique collector Dr Ahmed Khoory. Artefacts in Dr Khoory's collection come from central Asia, ancient Persia, India and around the Middle East. Some of the items on display, the site says, date back to 2,000 BC. The oldest coins in the collection date back to 700 BC and 500 BC, with one depicting the ancient Persian king Dariush the Great. Around 40 of the coins in Dr Khoory's collection date from Alexander's time. Between 356 BC and 323 BC, the Greek king conquered territories including Egypt, Judea, Gaza and Syria. His empire eventually extended as far east as Punjab in India.
