A number of high-grade gold zones have been intersected by drilling at the Mount Ity gold mine that could extend the project's lifespan, La Mancha Resources has said.

The discoveries were part of a 23-hole drilling programme the company started in November 2007. The "significant" returns support the theory that much of Mount Ity's resources remain untapped.

According to the firm, the best intersections from the drilling include 29.62 g/t gold over 2.65 metres, 6.93 g/t gold over 10.65 metres and 14.84 g/t gold over 5.05 metres.

Some of the highest-grade intersections show mineralisation similar to that of previously identified resources at Mount Ity where production has already started.

La Mancha's chairman and chief executive, Michel Cuilhe said the results show the "strength" of Mount Ity's potential and added that he expects more "significant" results from that project and others in the coming weeks.

"We are confident that the $10.6 million [£5.39 million] exploration budget approved for 2008 will have a significant impact on La Mancha's reserve and resource base before the end of the year," he added.

The Mount Ity project is located in Ivory Coast, west Africa.
