High-grade zone expanded in GuyanaThe news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Tuesday, 26th February 2008 (2523 views) Trenching and test pitting work at the Northwest project in Guyana, South America, has expanded a zone of near-surface high-grade gold mineralisation, the company behind the project has announced.Sacre-Coeur Minerals said test pit NWHTP had yielded 12 metres averaging 7.90 g/t gold, including a vein of 21.41 g/t gold over a true width of 0.8 metres. Although the trenching programme only provides a two-dimensional picture of mineralisation at the site, Sacre-Coeur said geological mapping of the trenches indicates a collection of closely-spaced, sub-horizontal veins covering an area of 1,200 metres by 350 metres. The company's chief executive Irwin Olian said the "robust" results gave him "great encouragement" for the development potential of the project. "We are looking forward to the arrival of our new diamond drill rig on site so that we may commence drilling to evaluate the width and continuity of the gold-bearing zone," he commented. Vancouver-based Sacre-Coeur currently has four gold targets in Guyana, covering a total area of 850 square miles. These include the Million Mountain project, which between 1910 and 1911 produced over 6,488 ounces of gold.
