Chocolate brownies featuring a layer of edible gold leaf are set to help a dance theatre on its upcoming fund raising tour, according to reports.

The brownies, which are a speciality of US caterers Soozi and Linda Weddings and Parties, will make an appearance on the annual Kitchen Performances Tour, which raises money for the Hilton Head Dance Theatre on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

According to Island Packet, tour guests are taken around the kitchens of six homes on the island, where local chefs and caterers showcase their best dishes.

The site describes the gold leaf brownies as "crumbly yet moist" and adds that although the gold leaf covering can be eaten, it "doesn't register on the palate".

Soozi Williams, who co-founded Soozi and Linda Weddings and Parties, told the site that she first started using gold leaf in 1991, when she used it to decorate an 80th birthday cake.

"[The guests] couldn't believe it was actually edible. They were like kids at Christmas," she said.

Island Packet says Kitchen Performances Tour typically raises $17,000 (£8,555), which helps to pay for the dance school's production and guest dancer costs throughout the year.
