"Significant" drill intersections have been returned from a diamond drill hole completed at the Windfall Lake property in the Abitibi region of Quebec, it has been reported.

Freewest Resources said the hole, designated NOT-07-175, was completed to a depth of 16.76 metres and resulted in an average grade of 143.40 g/t gold over 3.22 metres.

Individual high-grade intercepts returned from the hole included values of 430 g/t gold over 0.89 metres, 115 g/t gold over 0.58 metres and 23.50 over 0.26 metres.

The company says Norton Resources, which holds the area under option from Freewest, now plans to carry out several short-range surface holes to confirm and define the extent of high-grade gold mineralisation around the NOT-07-175 drill hole.

The hole was one of 15 completed at Windfall Lake to a total depth of 221.85 metres. The drilling programme was carried out in support of geotechnical and hydrological studies taking place on the property.

Windfall Lake is one of four properties that make up the Barry-Urban project, which sits 180 kilometres south-west of Chibougamau. The property forms part of the Abitibi greenstone belt that runs through north-west Quebec.
