Sex and the City star Sarah Jessica Parker epitomised the current trend for statement jewellery in a recent outfit, according to one report.

The Telegraph observes that the actress paired a Erickson Beamon necklace with a £12,600 Fred Leighton gold and mosaic opal strand recently, showing onlookers the way to combine costume jewellery with classic pieces.

According to the publication's Bronwyn Cosgrave, the year 2000 represented the commencement of the "decade of the accessory" as the noughties brought with them a love of shoes, bags and jewellery.

Carol Woolton, Vogue's jewellery editor, told the newspaper that high-street items owned by many others should be eschewed in favour of statement, signature items, as seen on the spring/summer and autumn/winter catwalks.

Yves Saint Laurent, Burberry, Balenciaga and Lanvin all displayed powerful accessories such as metal bangles, chandelier earrings and dramatic brooches.

Fans of Sarah Jessica Parker and her experimental look can catch the actress in Sex and the City: The Movie, due out in the UK next month.
