The Ontario Mining Association (OMA) is hosting an event that will address the issue of making the mining workplace more female-friendly.

According to the organisation, women currently make up 13 per cent of the mining workforce, some way off the total workforce percentage of 47 per cent.

The Demographics, Global Markets and the Future Workforce will devote part of its programme to the experiences and stories of four women from within the industry, allowing attendees to explore ways to increase female participation.

Running from June 9th to June 11th, the conference at the Hilton Hotel in Windsor will also feature discussions on global demographics and where the future large markets will be, according to the OMA website.

The OMA annual meeting and an underground salt mine tour are two of the other programmed events for the conference.

Established in 1920, the OMA has 57 members including BHP Billiton and Wesdome Gold Mines, according to the group's website.
