Mining on three levels at the Guanajuato mine in Mexico has encountered high-grade ore yielding gold grades of up to 7.2 grams per ton (g/t), it has been announced.

The mine's operator, Great Panther Resources, said the ore was intercepted in the North zone of the Veta Madre vein, which is located in the Guanajuatito area of the property.

Underground sampling from the area determined that the grade of 7.2 g/t gold had a true width of 1.9 metres.

Other samples from the work include gold grades of 5.58 g/t gold over a true width of 3.3 metres, 3.88 g/t gold over a true width of 2.3 metres and 3.30 g/t gold over a true width of 2.1 metres.

Great Panther said that its surface and underground drilling at Guanajuato has been "highly successful" in defining the site's mineralisation, with underground development confirming the consistency of ore grades.

It added that the Guanajuatito North zone remains open at depth and the company plans to extend it further with a deep-core drilling programme that is set to commence in June 2008.

The Guanajuato mines property takes its name from the state where it is located in central Mexico. It is located on the outskirts of the state's capital, around 380 kilometres north-west of Mexico City.
