A Russian-born jewellery designer is planning to take the fashion world by storm with products including candles adorned with gold flakes.

Lana Fertelmeister's jewellery has long been popular with the Hollywood glitterati and the designer is now looking to branch out of the jet set with a series of unique new items, reports Business Week.

Fertelmeister's big break came when actress Cameron Diaz wore a pair of earrings from her range to the premiere of Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, the report notes.

However, the designer had been making waves before her work's foray onto the red carpet with a line of gold necklaces aimed at committed girlfriends and boyfriends.

The idea first came to Fertelmeister when, despite not wanting to get engaged to her partner Rob Bramlette, she wanted to let other men know she was unavailable.

Her gold necklace spelling out her boyfriend's name was an immediate hit, with women stopping the designer in public to ask where they could purchase a similar product.

While Fertelmeister may prefer gold flakes on candles, chef Daniel Bould chose to sprinkle flecks of the precious metal on his new double truffle burger, available at the Wall Street Burger Shoppe.
