Friday, 23rd May 2008 (1129 views) A representative organisation for the Ontario mining industry has contributing to a new report on promoting biodiversity in the province. The Ontario Mining Association (OMA) has revealed on its website that a new report, intended to pave the way towards a comprehensive report on the province's biodiversity strategy in 2010, features the contributions of the manager of environment and sustainability with the OMA, Adrianna Stech. Entitled Protecting What Sustains Us, the report was created by the Ontario Biodiversity Council, of which Ms Stech is one of the 23 members. Members of the OMA - which include Kirkland Lake Gold and Wesdome Gold Mines - invest more than $100 million (£50 million) each year into strategies targeted at environmental protection and improvement. "Nature's products such as timber, fish, precious metals and aggregates are the basis of our economy. In short, without biodiversity, we wouldn't survive," said Jon Grant, chair of the council.
