A new dating service is being launched in Australia to help the country's lovelorn gold miners find their perfect match, according to reports.

Newspaper the Telegraph says the site, Meet a Mining Man, will attempt to bring together gold hunters who work for weeks at a time in remote outback mines with urban dwellers facing a drought of potential other halves.

The paper adds that many gold miners work on a "fly-in, fly-out" basis, meaning they work for extended periods hundreds of miles from the nearest pub or nightclub and with a "severe dearth of female company".

Meanwhile, many young women in the cities face a "man drought" as Western Australia's booming mineral exports attract more and more young men to the goldfields.

According to the newspaper, those registering with the site are asked to list their favourite animal and restaurant, as well as their most memorable experience and what they would like to be doing in five years' time.

Australia's gold mining boom is being fuelled by increasing demand from Asia, particularly China. According to arizonaoutback.com, the first gold was discovered in the country in 1851.
