Thursday, 24th July 2008 (3289 views) A campaign by the Martin County Convention and Visitors' Bureau involves planting gold treasure around the location for discovery by tourists. The first visitor discovered treasure planted by the bureau recently, reports NewsLI.com. Lisa Gagliano, a resident of Long Island, discovered gold doubloons and Mardi Gras beads inside a glass and gold-adorned treasure chest on a visit to the Florida Oceanographic Coastal Center on Hutchinson Island. The chest included an entry form for a chance to win more treasure, which Ms Gagliano filled out. Four treasure chests are being hidden at random locations throughout Martin County on each day in July, with one lucky winner at the end of the month winning real jewellery and a replica of a Spanish treasure coin. Mary Palczer, the interim executive director, said that even if visitors do not arrive at the location with the specific aim of finding treasure, lucky participants are likely to associate Martin County with a special experience after they leave. Martin County was created in 1925 and is named for John W Martin, Florida's governor between 1925 and 1929.
