Friday, 25th July 2008 (1881 views) Gold pieces of a medieval sword are currently on display in a north Lincolnshire museum, according to this is Scunthorpe.An article on the website states the weapon is returning to the area for a while following a period at the British Museum, which is its permanent home. The nobleman's sword was unearthed in Market Rasen in 2002 by a metal detector enthusiast. Speaking to this is Scunthorpe, a north Lincolnshire council spokeswoman said: "The sword pommel and hilt fittings are the first sword fittings of this type to be found from Anglo-Saxon England." The report claims the seventh century pommel and hilt were found with a small piece of rough gold. North Lincolnshire council cabinet member for leisure, arts and culture Christine O'Sullivan said the return of the sword to the place where it was originally found offers history-enthusiasts to have a look at the artefact without having to travel to the British Museum. Earlier this month, it was reported a gold bar was found in Texas as the result of an interactive marketing campaign for a computer game.
