Gold plate at palace exhibitionThe news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Monday, 28th July 2008 (832 views) The 4,000-piece Grand Service - the table service brought together by George IV - is on display at Buckingham Palace this summer, with one national newspaper calling it "one of the must-see exhibitions of the year".According to the Daily Mail, the service includes 288 dinner plates and 140 spoons made from gold, among other metals. The initial delivery of the service from Rundell, Bridge and Rundell, the royal goldsmiths, was made in 1811 and cost £60,000 at the time - an excess of more than £3 million in today's terms. Items from the collection are set to be displayed at Buckingham Palace during the next two months, with the Palace Ballroom decorated identically to how it looks for a state function. According to the Guardian, the gold cutlery on display is arranged in the same way as it was in March during the Queen's 96th state banquet, which was attended by French president Nicolas Sarkozy.
