A new collection on display at the V&A museum in London spans the entire history of jewellery, beginning with a gold accessory.

The William and Judith Bollinger Jewellery Gallery at the museum, on Cromwell Road in South Kensington, features a Celtic breast ornament from the late bronze age made of gold.

According to the BBC, the item "arrests your attention as you enter the gallery", forming the first step in a timeline that takes visitors from the earliest accessories to the present day.

Meanwhile, another highlight of the collection is said to be the Armada jewel or Heneage, which was presented to Sir Thomas Heneage by Queen Elizabeth I in the early 1590s.

A gold profile relief of the monarch is featured on the front, surrounded by gemstones, the article reveals.

The William and Judith Bollinger Jewellery Gallery features some 1,500 items from the museum's jewellery collection, representing more than 140 living goldsmiths and jewellers.
