Tuesday, 26th August 2008 (2152 views) Police in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia have arrested five men for the theft of SR2.5 million (£363.763) worth of gold ornaments and jewellery.The arrests took place following a coast-to-coast investigation, reports the Saudi Gazette. It is believed the gold was stolen by an employee who worked as a caretaker for 15 years for a family in Damman. The theft took place while the family was away on holiday, according to police statements. In order to avoid detection, the caretaker and his four accomplices broke up the jewellery pieces so they would not be recognised and waited for several months before trying to sell the items. Meanwhile, a retired army officer living in Delhi, India was robbed earlier this month, reports Thaindian News. According to a police statement, four people forced their way into the house after a maid opened the door. Armed with knives, the assailants stole gold jewellery before escaping from the property.
