Thursday, 28th August 2008 (1284 views) A solid gold statue of supermodel Kate Moss worth £1.5 million has been unveiled.Entitled Siren, the sculpture will be displayed at the Nereid Gallery in the British Museum from October. Weighing in at 50 kg, it is said to be to be the largest gold statue to be produced since ancient Egyptian times. The golden effigy will be part of an exhibition called Statuephilia, which runs from October 4th until January 25th and will also feature artists such as Damien Hirst and Anthony Gormley. Artist Marc Quinn has also used the fashion icon in his previous work Sphinx and described her as "the ideal beauty of the moment". The British Museum claimed that Moss was an "icon of contemporary beauty and Aphrodite of our times". Channel 4 television series The Sculpture Diaries, on which the Statuephilia concept is based, will be broadcast this autumn.
