The sale, hosted by Richard D Hatch & Associates in Flat Rock, North Carolina, consisted of a wide range of pieces from several estates.

A Princess Head gold coin from 1856 was sold for $825 (£529) and a 1917 McKinley gold coin went for $176.

A Turkish medal containing gold was also featured and went for $1,870, while a lady's watch adorned with the precious metal commanded $880.

Other timepieces that were featured included an 18-c gold fob decorated with jewels and a man's Omega Constellation piece, also in 18-c gold.
