India Post has announced that it is to extend its recently-launched sale of gold coins to the state of Punjab following "overwhelming demand" for the service.

The 24-c gold coins will now be on offer in post offices in Jallandhar and Ludhiana after customers queued up in outlets around the country to buy the pieces after the launch of the service.

In addition, the organisation is introducing a five per cent discount to customers during the festive season.

Sunday October 26th is the eve of Dhanteras, which is considered an "auspicious" day on which to buy precious metals, the body stated.

India Post will also keep some outlets open on the festival day in order to supply gold coins to enthusiastic customers.

It has been overwhelmed by the "very good response" from the public, it revealed.

The current popularity of the precious metal recently prompted Tyson Elliot from Gold Mining Claims Secrets to encourage the public to prospect for gold as it can be a "fun and lucrative" venture.
