Friday, 21st November 2008 (1043 views) Columbus Gold has announced that drilling has commenced at its Scraper project north of Battle Mountain, Nevada. The gold exploration and development company reported that the current programme will comprise around 1,067m of reverse circulation drilling in three holes at the property, which covers a volcanic centre. Detailed geologic mapping has been completed along with soil and rock sampling and numerous gold anomalies were discovered in the grid soil sampling, while rock values to 0.8g/t were found along altered structures. According to Columbus, the intrusive body at the site is dated at 38.9 millions of years before present, the age of igneous rocks associated with gold deposits elsewhere on the Carlin Trend. A detailed ground magnetic survey has indicated that the intrusive body is approximately 1,676m long and 671m in diameter. Columbus joint venture partner Newmont Mining can earn an initial 51 per cent interest in the Scraper project by undertaking staged annual exploration expenditures. Based in Vancouver, gold exploration and Columbus Gold recently appointed a new vice president of commercial affairs, Joel Schuster who has more than a decade of experience in private legal practice and has represented a range of mining companies in Canada and the US.
