Friday, 21st November 2008 (894 views) Handbags adorned with precious metals are set to be a popular Christmas present this year, it has been reported. The items solve a problem for those who cannot decide whether to choose a handbag or a jewel as a gift, according to the International Herald Tribune. Italian designer Roberto Coin incorporated his trademark yellow gold and ruby design into handbags in 2007 and has been selling them ever since. He told the news provider he began the process by asking: "How can we make our jewellery into leather bags?" His jewel-adorned bags, decorated with 24-c carat gold, start at around $25,000 (£16,709). Mr Coin revealed he is putting the finishing touches to a 2009 collection that builds on the range of clutches he launched last year. Meanwhile, Hyman Companies, which operates the Landau fashion boutiques, has revealed it is to stock a range of 14-c gold moissanite designs.
