Friday, 21st November 2008 (781 views) A rare gold-set St George's Cavalry sword from 1915 is included in an upcoming sale at London auctioneers Christie's.It is part of the Russian Works of Art sale that is being held as part of a wider Russian Art Week taking place in the British capital. The sword is stamped Schaff and Son, features the Imperial Warrant, a St Petersburg brass grip and the Russian inscription of 'For Bravery' on the side bars. Its hilt displays the text 'Nicholas the Younger 1884-1890 inlaid in gold, which refers to the grand duke Nicholas Nikolaevich who was commander of the Guard Hassar Regiment for this period. The blade was a leaving present from his fellow officers, the auctioneer explained. November 24th is the date the sword is due to go under the hammer. It is predicted to fetch up to £180,000. Meanwhile, London auction house Bonhams is to sell a collection of jewellery that belonged to the late Hollywood star Deborah Kerr.
