Tuesday, 25th November 2008 (1822 views) The ninth annual Brilliantly Birmingham festival will take place in the Midlands city.Businesses in the city's Jewellery Quarter will be providing a behind-the-scenes look at how gold items are produced and promoting their designs. Independent jeweller Sally Collins, who graduated from Birmingham City University in 2008 has been chosen as the face of the festival after organisers came to her degree show and her work has been placed on display at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, the Birmingham Mail reports. "Events like Brilliantly Birmingham are really important to the city. Birmingham is unique in that it has all the history and traditional jewellers who are side by side with contemporary young jewellers," Ms Collins said. Running from November 28th to December 21st, Brilliantly Birmingham showcases the work of local, national and international jewellery designers and makers, with exhibitions, workshops and special events taking place at venues across the city. Sharon Walker, co-director of Urth, will address the event to talk about her gold jewellery, which has been worn by stars such as Emma Thompson and Lily Cole, the Birmingham Post reports.
