Ladies seeking an indulgent spa experience can now experience the moisturising power of gold, it has emerged.

The Gilded Spa and Salon uses 24-carat gold to help women feel like a queen for day, wptv.com reports.

While sipping on a glass of champagne, guests at the spa are treated to a facial which involves placing 24-carat gold leaf onto the skin and moisturising the precious metal into the face.

According to owner Natascha Fasnaskis, this will leave the guests with glowing skin that is plump and luminous for up to two weeks.

"It's said Cleopatra slept with a gold mask every night ... and ancient Chinese ... the empresses used to put gold on their faces every night," she told the news source.

Meanwhile, an exhibition in Atlanta is displaying artefacts from the tomb of Egyptian Pharaoh Tutankhamun for those who would like to learn more about the role of gold in ancient societies.
