US government representatives were showered with gifts made from gold by Arab leaders during recent state visits.

An official US document has detailed some of the presents bestowed upon government members including president George Bush and secretary of state Condoleezza Rice.

Ms Rice was the recipient of a ring, bracelet, earrings and necklace made of 19-c white gold from the King of Jordan, it revealed.

George Bush also received thousands of dollars' worth of gifts from the Jordanian king as well as King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia, among others.

However, the government officials were not able to enjoy their gifts as they were handed over to the General Services Administration in accordance with the law.

This is because, in almost all circumstances, officials are barred from receiving personal presents.

Recently, Firenze Jewels claimed that the jewellery political figures wear says much about their personalities.

It stated that incoming first lady Michelle Obama's style means she is "very down to earth".
