A US jeweller has outlined some gold timepieces that it says will make the best Christmas presents.

Melrose Jewellers has identified several gold Rolex watches that it claims are the most popular festive gifts.

The list includes a ladies' Rolex Super President piece in 18-c yellow gold, which retails at $9,135 (£6,176).

It also features a men's 18-c gold Rolex Day Date Super Presidental watch with a champagne dial at $10,525.

The firm stated that each of its watches are sold in "showroom mint" condition with a full appraisal from the Los Angeles International Gemological Laboratory.

Recently, fellow US jewellery retailer Gordon's included a range of rings, earrings, bracelets and necklaces in a list of the top ten Christmas presents to give this year.

The list included a set of "versatile and classy" hoop earrings in white gold and a heart pendant decorated with ribbons of the precious metal.
