Friday, 23rd January 2009 (854 views) The Royal Mint has announced it is to produce a limited-edition gold coin to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the birth of Robert Burns.Only 1,000 of the £2 coins are to be manufactured in honour of the poet, each costing £475. An extract from the original manuscript of Auld Lang Syne is inscribed on one side of the coin, with the words "We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet, For auld lang syne" appearing in the centre of the currency. Director of the Royal Mint said Dave Knight said it was "delighted to produce a coin which marks such a significant date in British literary history". He added that the mint hopes the coin will be appreciated by collectors, enthusiasts and historians, along with the general public. In related news today, four Australian Oscar winners - Geoffrey Rush, Nicole Kidman, Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett - are to receive a set of gold stamps to mark their achievements in the acting world.
